I'm sooo grateful! 🥹 But there's still sooo much work to be done! Sooo much help needed and together, we can make it happen! I attended a Community Partners meeting this week and met some lovely people from various organizations around our community fighting for amazing causes! You could really see the Power in Unity! I can only imagine... The more of us that come together, supporting the great needs around us, the more hope, peace, joy that could come to sooo many! Thank you Albany Housing Authority for hosting collaborative meetings to share and support those who need it the most! Friday Night Sofa Chronicles 🛋 Sooo...late start tonight. I had a FULL week and today was spent visiting my oldest Aunt, who has not being feeling her best, but today was a really good day! Lots of smiles, a stroll outside for some amazing sunshine, and she was even up for pictures and videos that I will always treasure! 🥹 That made me super happy today! My day actually started with an early kickoff to my birthday with lunch from one of my dearest friends. Then off to a roadtrip with my Dad (one of my best friends) to see my Aunt.🩷 What I realized was that this one day made the entire week complete. There was a strong finish to a busy and productive week! 📈 I mean, I got a new client! I got to connect with some fellow leaders in this community at two great networking events, put on by ASU and the other put on by the chamber. Those connections have already led to some great opportunities in the following weeks! 🫱🏾‍🫲🏻 On top of that, some people I love were lifted up with the "hugs" they needed! I love my village! 🙏🏽 But I would like to shout out Cheryl Vinson! Although we have connected professionally, I always love a super cool person that just has a great vibe personally! Friday Sofa Chronicles: 🛋🩷🙏🏽 This week was full of unexpected and deeply saddening news from a scare with a family member to hearing the loss of a beloved community member, Dr. John Culbreath. ❤️🙏🏽✨️ I shared some sentiments earlier this week. One thing I'll add is that he truly left a legacy, and his support for me and soo many in this community won't be forgotten. He's one I always wanted to make proud. Thank God I was able to hear, some years ago, how proud he was of me and my work in creating career opportunities for DCSS students. I am even more determined to continue that work now. Not only with youth, but business professionals seeking more. I will continue to make his legacy proud and be the change agent he saw in me many years ago. I'm thankful how this week ended and I have to always be soooo very grateful for my village. We are the sum of our parts. So make sure you are connected to godly, healthy, productive, loving, caring, and accountable parts that add value and growth to your life. If something or someone is robbing you of joy, peace, and motivation...let it go. It's okay! We all have legacies to leave. I'm being reminded to live with intention and purpose. You know that you took action instead of keeping plans as thoughts. You made use of time...which is a gift! And l am sooo grateful for the gift of time and what was produced this week! Eventually, so many people will benefit from this one week, and the choice to DO something versus ponder on it, is it's on reward and will yield more than I can imagine. I can only document my thoughts at the end of each week and imagine looking back after a year has passed and smiling from all that resulted from being productive versus stationary. What a week!!!! There will be a special chapter in my book about the past seven days! There's a book called "Marriage Be Hard", but one can say "Leading Be Hard", lol! Sooo many choices to make. But that's what makes us stronger, right? Leaders are some unique people. I used to think it was a lot to do with being the oldest sibling, having to be "in charge" when the parents run errands. Although there are some inherent qualities you can gain from that experience, it alone does not make you a leader. Being a leader is a CHOICE! What type of leader you become is also based on choices. So, even though it can be difficult at times, the real question is what choice will you make? As you grow, do better! Choose better! ⚠️Long post alert. But also, all good! 😊 Soooooo..... I am sitting and reflecting on my professional journey, as a Facebook memory popped up in my notifications. Two years ago, I was promoted to a regional position with the Georgia Department of Education. I was extremely excited and imagined retiring from there, having impacted the careers of the future workforce, economic development in SWGA, and so on and so forth. BUT that vision was short-lived. The grant was not renewed and a career pivot was required. One year later, I answer the call to the interim CEO position for the Sumter County Chamber of Commerce. Not tooting my own horn, but thanks to God, did a 180° makeover to the chamber's impact for business growth and development, locally and state-wide. Six months later, declined the permanent position due to relocation requirements and some unforeseen circumstances. Definitely didn't see that being short-lived. I was just getting started. But it was okay. That's life, right? It's the journey, right? It's having the courage to pivot, right? Absolutely correct! I love the scripture "the race isn't given to the swift, nor to the strong...but to the one that endureth until the end". In life, we have to endure change and challenges. Professionally, I've gained sooo much from my experiences and I'm following the course God has prepared for me. I'm truly grateful. It's been fulfilling in a lot of ways and exciting stepping into big shoes and leaving a footprint.🙏🏽 Some people will not retire from the same company after 30 years, like my Dad did...like I thought I would. Some will pivot due to the call for change. I learned the term, "change-agent" in college. It never left me and now I know why. That's who I am, through and through! And now, I'm sitting here smiling, because...I get it! Everyone has their own journey and is meant to do what they are meant to do and that's that. But OWN it! Stand TALL! And leave a FOOTPRINT! 👣😊 Okay, I'm done. Just some thoughts from an older millennial, reflecting...openly, lol.❤️🙏🏽😏
